SFPUC, Supervisor Tang & Friends of the Urban Forest to Host Planting Day in Sunset District
Posted Date: 11/9/2018 11:00 AM
San Francisco, CA—The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), Supervisor Katy Tang,  Friends of the Urban Forest (FUF) and Sunset District residents will replace about 1,000 square feet of concrete with drought resistant, native plants on Saturday as part of the Front Yard Ambassadors Program. Through this grant program, residents can secure funding to transform the pavement in their front yards into low-maintenance green spaces. This beautifies the neighborhood while helping the City’s combined sewer system to manage stormwater and promote water efficient landscaping practices.

Since the program’s inception in 2014, 93 houses and two commercial properties on 15 blocks have participated in the program. As a result, more than 12,000 square feet of impervious concrete has been replaced with 100 gardens, keeping about 150,000 gallons of stormwater out of San Francisco’s combined sewer system annually. Tomorrow’s planting day is made possible by the SFPUC’s social impact partners, Stantec and Carrollo.
