Your Water Quality

High quality water comes from high quality sources—and we keep it that way, all the way to your tap.

SFPUC’s water comes from long-protected watersheds in Yosemite National Park, Alameda and San Mateo counties, as well as aquifers in San Francisco and northern San Mateo County. Gathering water from those sources is just the first step in providing you with high-quality water. From collection through treatment, regular water quality testing, and distribution, our complex system insures that we deliver quality tap water to all our customers and consumers.

Every day our expert workforce collects and tests our water. We conduct over 100,000 tests per year throughout our system to confirm that we consistently meet or exceed state and federal standards for health and regulatory requirements. For more information on the many ways we continually safeguard the quality of the water we serve, please see the resources posted on this page.

And remember, if you have questions about the taste, color or odor of the drinking water from your tap, please call 3-1-1.
