The College Hill Learning Garden is our education and demonstration garden which is designed to teach local students about how they can help cities transition to ecologically-friendly water, food, energy, and waste systems. The site contains dozens of interactive features, including solar panels, a composting toilet, rain gardens, and vegetable planters.
Open to the public since April of 2016, the garden is owned, built and supported by the SFPUC. The garden is maintained and operated by Education Outside, a local nonprofit that offers free field trips to the garden for third, fourth and fifth grade students. These field trips last two to three hours with a focus on Big Ideas, an ecoliteracy guidebook that helps to foster the next generation of environmental stewards.
