"Using Water Wisely" 2014 Illustration Contest Winners

More than 100 San Francisco students demonstrated their artistic talent and commitment to sustainability by participating in the SFPUC’s 2014 “Using Water Wisely” Illustration Contest. Congratulations to our overall winner, Maverick Malabey, from St. Thomas More School.

This year’s entries showcased students’ creativity through colorful and textured illustrations and collages. The artwork included practical water conservation tips, plumbing leak repair messaging as well as imaginative ways to reuse water. Creative inspiration was provided by ‘Our Water’, the SFPUC’s California standards-aligned curriculum unit that introduces children to the Hetch Hetchy Water System and ways to conserve and protect our water resources.

Maverick’s entire class will receive reusable, stainless steel canteens and the contest’s grand prize: a field trip to the San Francisco Garden for the Environment (GFE). At GFE, the students will have a hands-on opportunity to learn about water-wise gardening and pollution prevention.

Congratulations to all our winners!
