San Francisco, CA – Today the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the new Sewer Operations division site located at 1601 Griffith Avenue. The site, which was previously used for storing equipment and excess construction materials, will now serve as the central location for all SFPUC Sewer Operations, including sewer cleaning and inspection crews and the popular SFGreaseCycle program. In all, more than 70 crew members will work out of the site regularly.

Features of the new Griffith Yard facility include on-site catch basin and sewer simulations for staff and apprentice training, dispatch and emergency response space, a Vac-Con truck maintenance bay, and 11,000 square feet of modern work stations.

"Griffith Yard is yet another example of our commitment to improving operational efficiencies and increasing ratepayer savings," said Harlan L. Kelly Jr., General Manager of the SFPUC. "For the first time, our teams can train on-site, maintain their vehicles and equipment, and off-load Vac-Con trucks all at this facility."

"For years the SFPUC and Commissioners have been working to ensure that there are workforce opportunities in the Bayview," said SFPUC Commissioner Vince Courtney. "Gaining institutional knowledge and mentorships happens with facilities like Griifith Yard that can accomodate trainings and workforce developments."

Construction at the site over the past year transformed the compound into a state-of-the-art facility that makes SFPUC operations more efficient and boasts 12,000 square feet of green infrastructure to increase the diversity of on-site vegetation and help better manage stormwater in the area.
