Crissy Field Beach is located along the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) Presidio. This two-mile beach includes two stations from which samples are collected to measure bacteria water quality. Boardsailing is a common water activity. General swimming and wading are discouraged due to the cold water temperatures and strong tidal currents. GGNRA restored a salt-water lagoon and tidal marsh toward the eastern end of the beach that provides habitat for several species of waterfowl.
